EVA foam is essentially a polymer material with a closed-cell structure, which endows it with three core advantages.

First, excellent shock absorption and impact protection. The closed-cell structure effectively absorbs impact force and cushions collisions, protecting the base floor from abrasion while greatly reducing the risk of injury from falls. This makes it widely used in sports venues, children’s activity spaces and fitness areas. Meanwhile, the material is tough and wear-resistant, withstands high-frequency foot traffic and delivers stable service life.

Second, water resistance and easy maintenance for strong scenario adaptability. EVA foam itself does not absorb or permeate water, so it will never get moldy or deformed due to moisture. It can be safely used even in moisture-prone basements and children’s play areas where drinks are often spilled. Daily cleaning only requires wiping the surface with a cloth.

Third, lightweight and easy installation with no professional construction required. Each individual mat is light in weight, so one person can handle transportation and assembly. As a polymer Foam Material, thermal expansion and contraction is an inherent physical property of EVA. It has certain sensitivity to temperature changes, which is not a product quality defect.

When the ambient temperature drops, EVA foam will shrink slightly, usually only resulting in slightly wider splicing gaps, which basically does not affect normal use. But when the ambient temperature rises significantly, the foam will expand in volume. If the mats are installed completely tight against the wall without any expansion space reserved, the stress generated by expansion has nowhere to release, which will cause the mats to squeeze each other and arch upward, resulting in bulging joints and local unevenness.

It should be noted that this expansion deformation is completely reversible. When the ambient temperature falls back, EVA foam will gradually shrink and return to its original size, and the deformation problem will resolve itself accordingly.

To fundamentally avoid deformation problems caused by installation, the core is to reserve sufficient expansion space for the mats and avoid continuous high-temperature environments. Specifically, the following points can be followed:

Reserve expansion gaps around the perimeter during installation

Do not place the mats completely flush against the wall when laying a full area. It is recommended to leave a 5–10 mm expansion gapat wall positions, which can later be covered by baseboards. This does not affect the appearance while leaving room for expansion.

Assemble naturally without forced squeezing

When splicing, simply align the snap locks and fit them in naturally. Do not forcefully squeeze the mats to force them together, to avoid keeping the material in a tight state internally for a long time.

Avoid continuous high-temperature environments

Try to avoid prolonged direct sunlight exposure on the mats, and keep them away from continuous heat sources such as heaters and fan heaters.

If bulging has already occurred, first open windows for ventilation to lower the room temperature, then disassemble several mats in the arched area to release stress, and re-lay them after the temperature drops back.
