Rancho Cucamonga, CA – Rancho Cucamonga has become one of the most desirable places to live in Southern California. New housing, commercial projects, and continued development have helped shape the city’s growth. But as that growth continues, many residents are asking a simple question:

Is infrastructure keeping pace?

From traffic congestion and emergency response times to roads, utilities, water resources, and public services, residents increasingly want to know whether long-term planning is occurring before major development projects move forward.

David VanGorden, candidate for Rancho Cucamonga City Council District 2, believes these questions deserve thoughtful discussion.

“Most residents are not against growth,” VanGorden said. “What they’re asking is whether the necessary infrastructure is being planned and funded before additional strain is placed on the systems we already rely on every day.”

VanGorden says infrastructure should not be treated as an afterthought.

“Growth without infrastructure is not progress,” he said. “If roads become more congested, emergency services take longer to respond, and public resources become stretched, residents have every right to ask whether planning is keeping pace with development.”

Looking Beyond Individual Projects

While public attention often focuses on specific developments, many residents are beginning to look at the bigger picture.

Questions are being raised about cumulative impacts:

  • How will future growth affect traffic throughout the city?
  • Will roads and intersections be upgraded before congestion worsens?
  • Can public safety services keep pace with population increases?
  • How will infrastructure investments be prioritized?
  • What safeguards are in place to ensure responsible long-term planning?

VanGorden believes these conversations should occur before major decisions are finalized.

“Residents deserve transparency and clear answers,” he said. “The goal isn’t to stop progress. The goal is to make sure progress is sustainable.”

Residents Want Information, Not Politics

VanGorden says many of the questions he hears while speaking with residents are practical concerns about daily life rather than political issues.

People want to understand how decisions are made, how projects affect their neighborhoods, and whether city services will be able to support future growth.

“When residents ask questions, they should be welcomed into the conversation,” VanGorden said. “Good government starts with listening.”

David VanGorden is a candidate for Rancho Cucamonga City Council District 2. He is running against incumbent Kristine Scott and candidate DeJonae Shaw in the November 2026 election.
