ATLANTA – Aug 13, 2026 – <\/strong>What if the person everyone thinks is doing fine isn’t fine at all? Author and OnePastor founder Donnie Lafferty believes that question deserves more honesty than most of us give it. In his debut book, The Quiet Me Remembers: Rediscovering Who God Never Forgot<\/em>, Lafferty writes candidly about struggle, faith, loss and the exhausting work of appearing OK when life underneath is anything but.<\/p>\n

“We’ve gotten really good at giving people the version of ourselves we think they can handle,” Lafferty said. “We say we’re fine. We keep moving. We smile for the picture. Meanwhile, some of us are absolutely exhausted inside. I know that person because I’ve been that person.”<\/em><\/p>\n

The book grew out of years of Lafferty’s private journaling — through his own struggles, and later through unimaginable family tragedy when suicide touched his family and community. But Lafferty is careful about what the book is not.<\/p>\n

“This isn’t a book about suicide,” he said. “It’s about remembering who God says we are when the noise of life — pain, failure, grief, fear, our own thoughts — has made us forget.”<\/em><\/p>\n

That message carries particular weight ahead of National Suicide Prevention Month in September, as renewed attention turns to those quietly struggling with emotional distress and hopelessness. Lafferty hopes the book starts conversations long before a private struggle becomes a crisis.<\/p>\n

A Different Kind of Christian Book<\/strong><\/p>\n

Part memoir, part biblical encouragement, part invitation to stop pretending, The Quiet Me Remembers intentionally avoids making its author the hero of the story. The book features a foreword by Stu Epperson Jr. of the Truth Network.<\/p>\n

“Some of this book almost felt too honest to publish,” Lafferty said. “There were moments I wanted to pull it back and make it safer. But safe wasn’t the assignment. I kept thinking about the tired person who believes they’re the only one struggling. If my honesty helps somebody take off the mask and move one step closer to God, telling the truth was worth it.”<\/em><\/p>\n

Lafferty wrote the book for people who still believe in God but are tired — people who love Jesus but feel spiritually stuck, who carry grief or regret, who’ve become so busy surviving they can barely remember who they were before life got loud.<\/p>\n

“I don’t want somebody to finish this book impressed with Donnie Lafferty,” he said. “I want them remembering. I want somebody sitting alone somewhere to realize, ‘Maybe my story isn’t over. Maybe I can come alive again.'”<\/em><\/p>\n
