BANGKOK, Thailand –<\/strong> Dr. Thirach Rungruangkanokkul, Executive Director of AFMA<\/a>, an organization established with the support of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), announced that the Climate and Sustainability Capital Forum 2026 (CSCAP 2026)<\/strong> will be held on 23–24 September 2026<\/strong> at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok.<\/p>\n

Held under the theme, “Accelerating Sustainable Consumption and Production for Climate Justice and Value Chain Resilience in Asia-Pacific,”<\/strong> the forum seeks to strengthen the links between sustainable consumption and production (SCP), responsible procurement, sustainable supply chains, investment, trade and innovation, while enhancing the resilience of value chains across the Asia-Pacific region.<\/p>\n

The conference comes at a time when businesses are facing growing challenges arising from climate change, evolving international trade regulations, and increasing demands for transparency and traceability throughout global supply chains.<\/p>\n

Dr. Thirach emphasized that sustainability should no longer be viewed merely as a compliance obligation or an additional business cost, but rather as a pathway to generating capital, credibility, revenue and long-term competitiveness.<\/p>\n

“The objective of CSCAP is to enable sustainability to create real value—in the form of market access, revenue generation, risk reduction and investment opportunities—particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises that are increasingly confronted with complex sustainability requirements and rising compliance costs,” he said.<\/p>\n

AFMA Mandates Sustainism to Advance Sustainable Supply Chains Across Asia and the Pacific<\/strong><\/p>\n

To ensure concrete and long-term outcomes, AFMA has entrusted Sustainism<\/a>, an organization operating under its patronage, with a regional mandate to strengthen cooperation among private-sector actors, producers, service providers, buyers, investors and sustainable supply chains throughout Asia and the Pacific.<\/p>\n

The mandate will be overseen and administered by Mr. Pej Prapakittikun<\/a>, Director for Climate and Sustainability at AFMA<\/strong>, who has been appointed to serve as Director of Sustainism<\/strong> and will be responsible for coordinating, managing and advancing the initiative and its regional cooperation across Asia and the Pacific.<\/p>\n

The mandate encompasses cooperation on sustainable consumption and production, the promotion of responsible procurement, the enhancement of environmental, social and governance (ESG) data and evidence systems, and the development of mechanisms that enable small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and small-scale producers to gain greater access to sustainable markets, sources of finance and regional business networks.<\/p>\n

The initiative also seeks to align with internationally recognized principles, including the OECD frameworks on Responsible Business Conduct and risk-based due diligence, with the objective of reducing duplication among sustainability standards and minimizing unnecessary reporting burdens on businesses.<\/p>\n

According to Mr. Pej, CSCAP 2026 will mark the beginning of a broader regional cooperation mechanism that will expand to countries across Asia and the Pacific by leveraging SDG17 (Partnerships for the Goals)<\/strong> as a vehicle for advancing SDG12 (Responsible Consumption and Production)<\/strong> and SDG13 (Climate Action)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

“Under the mandate entrusted by AFMA, Sustainism will serve as a bridge between sustainability commitments and practical implementation. By strengthening sustainability data, evidence systems, market readiness and access to buyers and investors, we aim to transform sustainability into a driver of income generation, risk reduction and long-term competitiveness,” Mr. Pej said.<\/p>\n

Launch of the CS Standard and dMRV System<\/strong><\/p>\n

The first day of the Forum, on 23 September 2026, will mark the official launch and collaborative development of the CS Standard alongside digital Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (dMRV) systems under the concept of a “measure-to-standard pathway.”<\/p>\n

This integrated initiative will provide governments, businesses and supply-chain actors with a common framework for translating sustainability-related policies, data and evidence into measurable and verifiable performance. It is designed to reduce compliance costs, eliminate duplication and ease the administrative burden created by multiple sustainability frameworks, while strengthening transparency and traceability across supply chains.<\/p>\n

By establishing a shared pathway from measurement and evidence to standards and market recognition, the CS Standard and dMRV systems will enable businesses to respond more effectively to the requirements of buyers, investors, financial institutions and international markets. The framework will also strengthen preparedness for emerging international trade and sustainability requirements, including the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), and other evolving regulatory and due-diligence expectations affecting global value chains.<\/p>\n

Driving Climate Justice and Inclusive Traceability<\/strong><\/p>\n

A central priority of this initiative is advancing climate justice for smallholders and small-scale producers across Asia and the Pacific. By combining the CS Standard with accessible dMRV technologies, the framework directly addresses structural inequities in global supply chains:<\/p>\n

Empowering Smallholders:<\/strong> Streamlined dMRV tools lower technical and financial barriers, allowing small-scale farming and production units to capture, verify, and own their sustainability data.<\/p>\n

This approach recognizes that smallholders, cooperatives, community enterprises and SMEs often bear a disproportionate share of the costs associated with sustainability reporting, verification and traceability, despite having limited access to finance, technology and technical expertise.<\/p>\n

The dMRV systems are therefore intended to make sustainability measurement more accessible, affordable and practical. Participating enterprises and producers will be supported in collecting, managing and retaining ownership of their sustainability data, while producing evidence that can be used across multiple standards, markets and buyer requirements.<\/p>\n

Through this inclusive “measure-to-standard pathway,” sustainability data can be transformed into credible evidence; credible evidence can support recognition and market confidence; and increased confidence can open pathways to sustainable procurement, climate-related finance and participation in regional and global value chains.<\/p>\n

The initiative ultimately seeks to ensure that traceability does not become a new barrier to trade, but rather an enabling mechanism through which smallholders and smaller enterprises can demonstrate their contribution, secure fairer access to markets and participate meaningfully in the transition towards sustainable and climate-resilient supply chains across Asia and the Pacific.<\/p>\n

Connecting Sustainable Supply Chains, Capital and Regional Recognition<\/strong><\/p>\n

The second day of the Forum, on 24 September 2026<\/strong>, will focus on mechanisms for sustainable supply chains that enable SMEs and other enterprises to enter the sustainability transition through a structured and progressive pathway.<\/p>\n

The objective is to help businesses transform their ESG performance into capital, credibility, income and commercial opportunities<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Participating enterprises will be encouraged to organize sustainability-related information and evidence in a systematic manner. Buyers, in turn, will be able to use structured information to assess suppliers and reduce environmental, social, governance, human rights and broader supply-chain risks.<\/p>\n

The Forum will also announce international cooperation mechanisms, including the Sustainability Supply Alliance for Responsible Buyers (SSAB)<\/a><\/strong>, which is intended to connect producers, service providers, buyers, investors and partners committed to responsible procurement and sustainable supply chains.<\/p>\n

A sustainability awards ceremony will be held to recognize contributions to climate restoration, together with a formal recognition ceremony for organizations that have completed the relevant review process for sustainable supply-chain status.<\/p>\n

Recognized organizations will have their names and participation recorded under the initiative. This is intended to support the communication of their sustainability commitments and enhance opportunities to connect with buyers, ESG-focused investors, and countries or economic jurisdictions that place importance on OECD principles relating to responsible business conduct and due diligence throughout the value chain.<\/p>\n

A Regional Platform for Sustainable and Inclusive Growth<\/strong><\/p>\n

CSCAP 2026 seeks to become more than a forum for dialogue. It aims to establish a regional cooperation platform linking standards, digital data systems, traceability, procurement, investment and recognition mechanisms to support Asia and the Pacific in its transition towards a more sustainable, resilient and inclusive economy.<\/p>\n
