For a long time, key technologies for high-end naval-vessel composite materials have been constrained by others, and some high-performance materials as well as integrated structural-functional components still face foreign technology blockades. A research campaign aimed at achieving independent and controllable key materials for new naval vessels and realizing new performance breakthroughs has quietly begun at Dalian University of Technology.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">&ldquo;Naval-vessel materials cannot merely be lightweight; they must also remain reliable over the long term in complex marine environments and under special service conditions,&rdquo; said Zou Jiaxuan, a doctoral student at the School of Chemical Engineering of Dalian University of Technology. For a long time, key composite materials for new naval vessels have faced foreign technology blockades, and critical bottlenecks have existed in areas such as high-performance resin matrices, integrated structural-functional design, and the processing and manufacturing of large components. To address these practical challenges, under the guidance of Academician Jian Xigao and building on the research foundation accumulated by several members of the group, Zou Jiaxuan founded Dalian Poly NucliShield New Materials Co., Ltd. The company focuses on the lightweight, integrated, and high-safety development needs of new naval vessels, aiming to overcome dependence on foreign technologies in key materials through independent innovation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">To identify the pain points in equipment applications, the team has continuously carried out materials-system design, component preparation, and performance verification based on the service requirements of naval-vessel components under high salt spray, high humidity and heat, intense ultraviolet radiation, complex loads, and special functional-protection scenarios. After long-term research efforts, the team, relying on independently developed high-performance polymer materials, developed integrated structural-functional composite components for new naval vessels, achieving a coordinated breakthrough in lightweight load-bearing capacity and multifunctional protection.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The key to solving these problems lies within this seemingly ordinary composite component. Compared with traditional materials currently in service, it can not only reduce weight by more than 60%, but also offers comprehensive properties such as high-temperature resistance, radiation resistance, corrosion resistance, and flame retardancy. It also meets application requirements in radar-wave absorption and low infrared emissivity. &ldquo;Our goal is not simply to replace traditional metallic materials, but to enable materials to perform multiple tasks at the same time, including load-bearing, protection, and stealth, through integrated structural-functional design,&rdquo; Zou Jiaxuan said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">At present, the relevant materials and components have completed third-party testing and evaluation by the Chinese Society for Corrosion and Protection. Key indicators such as weather resistance, corrosion resistance, flame retardancy, radar-wave absorption, and low infrared emissivity have met the expected requirements, and the technology readiness level has reached Level 5.
