Miami, FL, US – September 12, 2026 – Bruce Huici runs Nurvana, a company working on the first drug meant to help patients recover from ischemic stroke. He also founded Hallstat, and holds multiple patents and patent-pending technologies tied to his work in healthcare.
Huici is now making a specific pledge: to keep the public informed as this drug moves through development, rather than staying quiet until there is a finished product to announce.
“Stroke recovery research usually happens behind closed doors until there’s a press release about a trial result,” Huici said. “I think patients and their families deserve to know what’s happening before that point too. The more eye we have on solutions the faster we solve the problem”
Why this matters for stroke patients
Ischemic stroke happens when a blood clot blocks flow to the brain. Patients who survive often face long recovery periods, and treatment options for the recovery phase itself are limited. Huici’s work at Nurvana is focused on that gap: not just treating the stroke as it happens, but helping the brain recover afterward.
“Most of the attention in stroke care goes to the emergency response,” Huici said. “That’s necessary. But recovery is where a patient’s life either gets rebuilt or doesn’t, and that phase hasn’t gotten the same level of drug development attention.”
What the pledge covers
Huici’s commitment has three parts:
Share updates on where the drug candidate stands in development, in plain language a non-scientist can follow.
Explain manufacturing decisions as they come up, since a compound only helps patients if it can be produced reliably and at scale.
Be direct about timelines, including when something is delayed, instead of only publishing good news.
“I’d rather tell people ‘this part is taking longer than we hoped’ than go silent,” Huici said. “Silence is what makes people distrust drug development.”
Manufacturing as the hard part
Huici has spent his career close to the manufacturing side of healthcare, not just the lab side. That background shapes how he talks about this project.
“A lot of people think the science is the hard part, and then manufacturing is just execution,” Huici said. “In my experience it’s the opposite. The science tells you what’s possible. Manufacturing tells you what’s actually going to reach a patient.”
He said that distinction is part of why he wants to be transparent about the manufacturing timeline specifically, not just clinical milestones.
“If we hit a wall in manufacturing, I want people to hear that from us directly,” Huici said. “Not find out later that something was quietly stuck for a year.”
Raising capital in the open
Nurvana is currently raising capital to support this work. Huici said he sees the public updates as tied to that process, not separate from it.
“Investors and patients are asking a version of the same question: is this real, and is it moving,” Huici said. “I’d rather answer that consistently than only when we need something.”
He added that being from Miami, with a nursing background himself, shapes how directly he wants to communicate. “I’ve been on the clinical side. I know what it’s like to want a straight answer instead of a press release full of hedges.”
What comes next
Huici said the first updates under this commitment will focus on where the drug candidate stands and what manufacturing steps come next. He did not attach a fixed schedule to every update, but said the intent is regular and ongoing communication rather than a one-time announcement.
“This isn’t a one-time thing where we tell you it exists and then disappear,” Huici said. “The whole point is that people can check back and actually know something new.”
